Sustainable Design Review

Today 5 representatives from Kiehl's along with 3 faculty members from Parsons School of Design collectively critiqued all the submissions made to the 2008 SDR competition. The theme of the competition centralized around responsible consumption at Kiehl's. We received great entries that fostered a lot of discussion among the jury regarding sustainability in our community as well as at Kiehl's.

Improving Biking Through Accessorizing

Like any other neo-treehugger out there, I have a bicycle. Well actually, not to brag or anything but, I own two bikes. Unfortunately, I do not ride them. I always think to myself how great it would be to ride to work one day or even to the store to pick up some fruit but I'm afraid I will fall off (again), or hurt myself in some other way (which I have before). But there is hope! The solution for my fear of cycling might be cured by the winner of Design 21's Power to the Pedal competition: (from the Design 21 competition page)

I was browsing DesignSponge (my favorite blog) today and saw that Grace Bonney featured these great eco friendly wrapping paper by Erin Ruth. The paper is made of 50% recycled paper and is printed with soy ink. It can be purchased on her website: http://erinruth.com/giftwrap.htm. Cute and not tacky at all.

There were over 130 exhibitors crammed into (and a little bit out of) Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA the weekend of March 14- 16 as CA Boom held their annual trade show. This was the 5th anniversary of the show and my first time attending. The event caters to architects, designers, students, and fans of sustainable and innovative home design.
